Rione Borgo Antico - descrizione

Su SCOPRI GALLICANO la descrizione dei 3 Rioni.

Rione Borgo Antico

FORZA BORGO!

Borgo Antico District

The Borgo Antico District of the Palio di San Jacopo is the result of the merging of two historical districts of Gallicano, “Strettoia” and “Roccaforte”, which merged into one single district in 1978, since the human resources available, in particular in the small “Roccaforte”, had gradually started decreasing.
It was thus decided to merge the districts, but to preserve the Red colour representing the district with the highest number of people involved, “Strettoia”, and therefore to have it as the official colour of the new district, “Borgo Antico”. An exciting adventure then started, and confirmed the District as a real institution in the village. The District represents, from a geographical point of view, the Central-Western part of Gallicano, where the oldest site of the village is located.
The motto “Borgo Antico, a constant commitment for your district, your people, your village” best expresses the sense of belonging and is the leitmotif of the people of the district. The district of Borgo Antico preserves some local traditions (the Carnival of Children, the Befanata), which have been perpetuated over the years with constant passion.
Because of the territorial division of the village, this district is the smallest one from a demographic point of view but, given its lively passion for this so-called “Festa dei Gallicanesi” – the Palio di San Jacopo – it has acquired a central role in it.
The District has always been a protagonist of the Palio, winning it also for several consecutive years and anyway remaining always competitive also when defeated. The district has recently organized, and would like to continue organizing, the festival “Borgo Fantasy”, with a gastronomic itinerary of traditional dishes of Gallicano in the area of the Castle of Gallicano, an event that has already obtained a great success.
Go Borgo!
